BASIC CONCEPTS
Computerized Videokeratoscopes
With the advances in computer
technology and video cameras,
computerized videokeratoscopes were
developed. Most, but not all, of the
present corneal topography instruments
still use a modified PlacidoΓÇÖs disc as
the target. The concentric pattern of
rings is then captured by a CCD TV
camera and digitized by an image
processing board in a computer. Once
the image is digitized mathematical
computations can be performed to
determine the corneal shape.
